![]() ![]() I just found a barely used Bowtech Solution SS for $600 with new strings on it locally from Craigslist.īuy used and look for something 1-4 yrs old. So I decided to try and get back to Bowtech since it’s been like 8 years since I’ve shot one. I shot wonderfully at 40 yds with that bow. My fav bow of all time because of how well I shot it was a Bowtech destroyer 350. ![]() I then bought an Elite Ritual 30 (hunt from ground blind so I like em shorter ATA.) Used it this year and it shot great even though it was louder to me and more shock than the Mathew’s. ![]() So I look at it as a rental for the season. I ended up getting $1000 used because these bows sell so well for resale. I bought a brand new V3 31 last year for $1200 and guess what! I sold it right after season. I love the Mathew’s look and to me they have no shock or vibration since 2019 they are phenomenal. I do not like buying new, I mostly buy used btw.įirst, every person is different. I have bought and sold so many bows these last couple years and can give some of my experience. You guys have seen these pic lots butĬompound bows have come a long way. once I felt pretty good about shooting again I ordered a new PSE EVL 34 EC cam and I have been loving shooting archery again. Then I went to the back yard and graduated to 5 yrds 8” x 11” bullseye. I shot every day for at least 1/2 hour just like that… 3 yrds at an 8 x 11 bullseye for about 2 weeks. I did that for another month.about 1/2 way through month 5 I finally loosed an arrow from my bow in my basement at 3 yrds using a full 8 x 11 sheet of paper as the bullseye. Then I put my sight back on and used a large target at like 3 yrds and I would just draw aim at the middle let the pin float then let down. Then I turned my bow down as low as it would go about 62lbs and would just draw and let down no sight on the bow And I did that for about a month. I bought the backstrap release and my son had a shot trainer didn’t even pick up my bow for 3 months just used the shot trainer. John Dudley’s video series is what I chose to follow and it really worked. ![]() So I just studied up on how to cure my problem. I hunted 2 seasons with it and killed 3 deer one of them was my biggest to date.īut just missed shooting and hunting with my son and my compound. Embarrassed, mad, totally frustrated I went and bought a crossbow. He’s confidently dropping arrows into a 3” group at 40yrds and I draw back and implode and completely miss the 4ft x 8ft backstop at 15yrds. I knew the jig was up when I went to the range one day with my son. Started to miss the bullseye by like 6-10inches constantly. Was causing me to want to get rid of that arrow faster than I wanted too and that is when things went for real crap. Not sure I even knew there was such a thing as target panic.Īs I got past the age of 46-47yrs old holding 72lbs at full draw with a 75% let off. I still had target panic freezing under the target, the old swing through and shoot and the odd chank one into the fence but was still mostly able to make ethical shots to 30yrds or so. For me when I was younger I think my physical ability allowed me to compensate enough to be an ok shot. But for me the hunt is the about the that apex moment of full draw and loosing an arrow at a buck that I have schemed to get close enough for the shot.Ĭlick to expand.Target panic seems to affect everyone a little differently. I have a crossbow and have taken a few deer with it and nothing against it. For me bow hunting with my compound is the way I prefer to hunt deer. Working through my shooting issues has let me enjoy shooting and hunting with my compound bow again. This Is just what has worked for me to get over my own shooting problems. Please know you don’t have to do anything I suggest. Better to not fire a bad arrow as it just leads to the next bad arrow. It’s really important that you can cancel a shot. I count as I pull, if the release hasn’t fired by a 7 count I let down and start the process over. Surprise it generally finds the bullseye. Stance, anchor, peep, float the pin over the target and pull, pull pull “straight back” until the release fires. For me, the way a BT release activates let me to learn how I’m really supposed to shoot a bow. It’s the mechanics and process fundamentals that you go through that make a good shot happen. You can still double jack a back tension release. It does… but not as much as what is happening between your ears. ![]()
